Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor and School Nurse) course
We have Healthy Child Programmes (HCPs) in Bedfordshire, Luton, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and Norfolk. All of our HCPs recruit once a year for student specialist community public health nurses (SCPHNs).
The SCPHN course is one year long and leads to a post graduate diploma (PgDip) and registration with the NMC as a SCPHN. The course involves a mix of attending university theory days (both online and in person) and time in clinical practice on placement in one of our HCPs as a student SCPHN.
Learners from Bedfordshire and Luton attend the course at the University of Hertfordshire, usually starting in September. Staff from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and Norfolk attend Anglia Ruskin University at their Cambridge campus, usually starting in January.
PgDip Specialist Community Nursing with Integrated Prescribing (District Nursing or Children’s Community Nursing)
This course is studied at the University of Hertfordshire and takes a year to complete. Our district nursing service in Luton and our children’s specialist community services recruit for staff to attend this course. It is delivered by a mix of attending university theory days (both online and in person) and time in clinical practice on placement in the employing service.
Our Professional Education Team support learners with a termly forum, enabling them to network with other learners, while providing individual support as required. The team will also be the link between the learner, the service employing them and and the university when needed.
