The Trust believes that engaging and empowering leadership is important to delivering effective patient care.

All staff within Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust (CCS) are encouraged to take up leadership opportunities. National guidance suggests that strong leadership is an important part of excellent patient care.

Below are details of the management and leadership programmes offered at CCS.

Training programmes

This is a practical management development programme designed for those who are new to, or aspiring to, their first management role. It aims to provide you with the skills needed to manage people competently and with confidence.

The programme is aimed at staff in all roles within healthcare, whether clinical or non-clinical.

The following leadership and management tools and concepts are explored in a group setting:

Compassionate and collective leadership and its importance in the NHS
- Building personal resilience through mindfulness
- Valuing yourself and others
- Getting the best from people and enabling your team
- Essential conversations
- Assertiveness
- Communication styles
- Effective meetings
- Team culture
- How organisations work and how you fit into the structure
- The importance of developing key relationships
The course complements the New Manager's Induction and is a stepping stone for the Chrysalis Leadership Programme.
This programme is designed to enable those involved in leadership and management at CCS to create an environment where change and improvement can thrive. It encourages ways of thinking and leading differently, so that individuals can take ownership of the quality and performance of the services they manage. It also promotes a culture of innovation and collective and compassionate leadership with a patient-centred approach.

It consists of 5 one-day workshops spread over 7 months and a series of action-learning sets inbetween the workshops at approximately monthly intervals during the programme. Participants will be allocated to one of two cohorts who will work together throughout the programme.
We also offer a suite of bite-size training to support those who manage and supervise staff. There are also courses providing training on particular subjects which can be accessed by a wider group of staff, for example, our recruitment, selection and anti-discriminatory practice training.

This training is helpful to those that are new to management roles and it can also be a a useful refresher for experienced managers.
